Crowded and Noisy  
Holy cow was this place a madhouse. Loved the historical aspect of it but i could do without all of the gypsy vendors and teenage smokers.

Grab some gelato and sit on one of the steps in the Spanish steps. Enjoy the view, people watch, learn about the history. Shopping is also around the corner, but bring a lot of cash!

In the summer it's way too crowded to be fun  
The Spanish steps themselves are cool, but right now there is scafolding covering the church at the top of the steps, and the whole place is swarmed with annoying teenagers.

WONDERFUL  
The Spanish steps and the Keats/Shelley house are a must in Rome. Great flower stalls for the romantic experience. American Express(in the piazza) gives a really good exchange rate for travellers...
