Answer #2 I think train is the cheapest if you don't mind booking in advance and specifying your trains... £17 is the cheapest I found - see http://www.nationalrail.co.ukIt costs from £21 single by coach with National Express - http://www.nationalexpress.comIf you have lots of time to spare, you could get a coach with Megabus ( http://www.megabus.com) from Oxford to London (from £1) and then a National Express coach from London to Nottingham (from £2) - answered by Phil
