Question : What is the best way to travel from Venice to Athens?
I am planning a trip to Europe, primarily Venice, Athens and some of the Greek Islands for about 12 days. I want to know what is the best route to do all of this. Thanks

All Answers: Answer #1 A lot of mediterranean cruises embark in both cities. But a cheaper solution is to take the ferry from Venice to Patras and then further by public transportation. - answered by Klaartje
Answer #2 Once in Venice, you can use a gondola to come over to Greece; seriously speaking, if you want to avoid planes (there is not a direct flight to Athens and you would have to change planes either in Milan or in Rome) the best way to come to Greece is to catch a ferry from Venice to Patras or to Piraeus. Patras is a 3-hour drive to Athens; Piraeus is twenty minutes by subway. You can disembark at Patras if you want to have a view of Greek landscape (either by bus or train) or to Piraeus if you wish to save three hours. If you want to visit the islands, Piraeus is a must, provided all ships to the Aegean Sea leave from there. If you need more information, do not hesitate to contact me directly or any of the Greek answerers. We shall be very glad to be of assistance. Have a nice trip! - answered by ngiapapa
Answer #3 There is the plane with direct flights of Alpi Eagle, and also with Superfast Ferries to Patra, and then about 2, 3 hours to Athens...(if you have time)... - answered by Leonarda
Answer #4 Venice-Athens:fly. I heard there is a new low cost company that does direct flight (Alp-something). Alpi Eagle as Leonarda said. The ferry takes too long and it is a pity to lose at least 2 days from your holidays .Athens-islands: ferry, especially fast ferries. For islands which are far from Athens, like Rhodes, Kos, Crete, flying is also a good option. - answered by cpinatsi
