Question: Caribbean Travel help!?

Question : Caribbean Travel help!?
I am planning a trip for this summer to either Negril, Jamaica, Nassau Bahamas or Cancuun/Riveria Maya area in Mexico. I have asked a similar question before, but wanted more info. I was leaning towards Jamaica, (airfare is less from FL) but have heard that it can be quite dangerous. I wan't to go somewhere laid back, with great beaches and tropical drinks. I do like some sort of activity, (casinos/shops) but the beaches are the most important to me. I do not, however, want to be haggled and approached by locals all day while I am at the beach. I realize, this is how people make $$, but I want to relax on my vacation and not be annoyed too much.....what would be the best place to go?I have only every been to Nassau, and I loved the beaches/locals but would like to experience somewhere else this time around.TIA

i'm afraid in most of the caribbean (including mexico) you are going to find people trying to sell something to you. best thing to do is actually booking into a hotel that has its own private beach, that way the locals aren't permitted onto it

If you are going to a resort, Jamaica is good. You will be behind gates, and the resorts themselves are fairly extensive. Grand Cayman is close but more expensive; it is, however, very modern, and you will not be bothered...it is probably the safest island around. British Virgin Islands is also a good choice. Scenic, and not very crowded, clean, clear water, and great beaches.

Before we moved to Barbados we always vacationed south of Cancun and were never bother by hawkers on the beach. The people were very friendly and respectful. BTW, most Caribbean islands are not allowed to cut off access to the beach from the locals. You could come here - beaches are awesome and I never get asked to buy from the locals. However, Bds is more expensive.I vote you go south of Cancun to an all inclusive BUT check their beach / ask about it, before you book.

I will be very truthful with you, I would suggest you go to a travel agency for some help. You can do some research on trip advisor because they have the best reviews and photos. The only casino I know of in Cancun is at the Moon Palace and it's a great resort but the beach is not nice. Too much seaweed. Have you checked out Cozumel. Very laid back. Beautiful beaches. I have never been bothered on any of the resorts.I wish you luck and hope you find your dream location.s

go to riviera maya/playa del carmen mexico. you won't get casinos, but you'll get plenty of activities. shopping is decent. if you're near playacar, the people in the shops will try to get you to come in their shop. but it's your choice. you can take the ferry to cozumel for the day and do the mayan ruins as well.good luck!
