Question : A US citizen traveling to Puerto Vallarta Mex & departing from a Mexican airport. What permit will I need?
Back in 2005 I traveled to Cancun I left from a Mexican airport in Mexicali B.C. when I returned I was asked for a permit but I had no idea what they were talking about...luckly it was when I arrived. I will be traveling to Puerto Vallarta in May again leaving from Mexicali B.C but this time I want to have this permit. Do you know what permit it is that I need?

When you cross the border,on the Mexico side, ask for a Tourist Permit. Do this before going to the airport. Now days it would be advisable to obtain a US Passport for international travel too.

It's a tourist visa that all non Mexicans are required to have. It costs about $23us at the border

IWhenever i've travelled outside of the us the airlines have always been responsable for providing any and all documents needed during my stay in a foreign country. Your previous airline should've given you the tourist permit during your flight for you to fill out and give to Immigration upon arriving. You should not have needed a permit upon returning to your native country. Best bet is to speak to a representative from your airline and ask them, they should know best what the procedure is. Afterward speaking to them make sure you ask immigration upon arriving in Mexico.I understand that currently you need a passport to travel to to Mexico if you're a US citizen.
