Question : What's the best way to travel around Toronto?
Hi. I'm going on a five day break to Toronto on Friday. I'm just curious, since i've never been, about what the best way is to travel around the city. Is there a good bus network or a subway system that spans the city?

You can walk around the central part okay but you need to hire a car or use taxi for a day or two to get the most out of of your stay.

yup subway's pretty good - then street-car if it's too far to walk

The TTC is the best way to go, busses/subway/streetcars go from one end of the city to the other.

It depends where you would like to go.Walking in the downtown area isn't bad (during the nice weather at least).TTC passes are not that expensive and you can pretty much go anywhere.There is also the Hop-On Hop-Off city tour buses where you can do literally what the title says. It stops at most major attractions/hotels I believe. I included the link. There are other companies to choose from, just google them!

Remember that if you take the TTC (that is the subway+streetcar+bus network in Toronto), if you don't buy the daypass but instead buy the token (which is for one single trip), you should take a "transfer" in case you need to switch onto a different line or mode of transit (like switching between buses or switching from subway to bus, etc.) If you're doing lots of trips that day maybe you should get a daypass. I forgot how much weekly passes are but also look into it when u're there. They're purchased at subway stations.Transfers in subway stations are where you see red standing boxes (they look like mailboxes but smaller i guess), after you enter the station, before you go down to traintrack level.Taxis are really expensive so unless there are like 4 of you or it's not a far distance, then really consider other options.In downtown, you can walk for a lot of it because there are always things to look at on the way to wherever you're going.

The best way to get around Toronto (downtown) is to walk, in my opinion. You can appreciate the city more that way. Otherwise the subway or a streetcar is your best bet. Have fun!

The TTC or Toronto Transit Authority is a very good & inexpensive way to get around the city. Get yourself a day pass.....this will allow you to get on & off the transit & make multiple trips at a reasonable price.Here's the link to the TTC:

Living in the city, I walk, A LOT. For someone that doesn't know their way around that well though, the TTC is fairly straight forward, and a day/week pass is fairly cheap. Renting a car in the city, or even taxis would be a much more expensive route.

Truly, the best way to get around Toronto is by bicycle. But if your not comftorable or use to riding in heavy traffic, this probably isn't for you. Walking in the downtown core would take a quick second, and the streetcars are also a pleasent way to travel and see the city (but they move slowly). The subway is benificial for longer trips, and for moving around the downtown core, but it is depressing and expensive. If you are drinking and taking in the night life, then you will want to cab it. Nothing worse than being intoxiated on the TTC. Plus its relitivly cheap and quick. But avoid cabs during rush hours in the day, you will just sit in traffic, racking up the fare.

You may:(1) walk in downtown area (2) using a day's pass, ride on TTC(Toronto Transit Commission) bus, subway train or street car, (3) rent a car for the day with a GPS device (I use
http://www.avis.ca) and go to places of your interest. Some GPS devices also tell you about the places of interest around a place from where you use the device.Welcome to Toronto.

Definitely, as the others have stated, the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) is excellent with their great subway system and bus system.

Our Subway system isn't as covering as New Yorks but our buses will get you almost anywhere you want to go. You can also rent a bike seeing as the weather is getting nice in Toronto!

Walk the downtown core and waterfront, TTC the rest.I live downtown and do not have or want a car
