Fastest way to DC from Verona will be to take I-81 North then Merge onto I-66 E via EXIT 300 toward FORT ROYAL / WASHINGTON. Then you can just stay on 66 and that will take you into the city or you could also get off 66 and get onto the Beltway which is I-495 (the Beltway is a big loop that goes around all of DC). It all depends on where in the city you want to go/stay to decide which way you'd go from 66. The weather here in May is actually quite pleasant, I'd say mid 70s on average.
