Question : Will I need a passport to travel from Chicago to Jamaica/ If so, how long will it take to get my passport?
I'm asking because my sister traveled to Jamaica last year with only her birth ceritificate. My husband and I are going and are under the impression that the laws have changed and we will now need our passports. Is this correct?

better to be safe than sorry. get a passport. mines took only 3 weeks to arrive. have fun in jamaica

Yes, there are new passport laws that require you to have a passport to travel to Jamaica and back. See below.*************************************************Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport.****************************************************If you apply at a Passport Acceptance Facility and choose Routine Service, you will receive your passport within about 8 weeks.If you apply By Mail (for renewal, additional pages, and amendment) and choose Expedited Service Plus Overnight delivery service for: Sending your application and Returning your passport to you will receive your passport within about 2 weeks.**Processing times can vary depending on workload and unforeseen natural disasters. Presently, we are experiencing a very high passport demand. Our usual 6-weeks' routine processing time may take somewhat longer.***Expedited service generally takes 2 weeks. It may take longer due to high passport demand.

Everyone flying needs a passport. We applied for new ones three weeks ago, we still haven't received them. On the news it said they are backed up 90 days.
