Question : drinking age in Hungary?
I am travelling to Hungary in about a month, just wondering what the drinking age is over there. Please state the difference between consumption age and purchasing age. Also wanted to know about clubs and such, and how old you need to be to go in them.

Answer #5 Good lord I hope you are at least 21 anyway. Hungary is not that safe, especially in Budapest, and I assume from your name "KATIE" that you are a female. Travel only with friends, there are a lot of mafia and crime thugs in Budapest. It is a very lovely city and fun to travel in, but it is nowhere near as safe as Prague or Vienna. - answered by pooptanic

Answer #8 officially: age 18, but in smaller shops they do not check it.(or if they check it, they write it out near the cassa).unfortunately most clubs, discos etc. are full of young drunken kids and (for me) it is terrible. not only in Hungary, but anywhere.you can enjoy it without drinking like a pelican. :) - answered by zadia75

Answer #10 Hi! Purchasing and consumption age is 18 and not so strictly checked. You can visit clubs if you are passed about 16. Clubs are safe for visit, but watch for your belongings! (don't leave them unattended)There are several free program&club magazines, like exit, pesti est, freee. Some of them are in english. - answered by peter_sari
