French citizens require an ID card (or valid passport) only.Tourists from the EU, the USA, Canada, Switzerland and Norway need a valid passport for stays up to 3 months. Over three months a visa is required. Guadeloupe is NOT party to the Schengen Agreement.

Answer #2
Additionally to the previous answer, which is right, a 5 months old baby does not need his/her own ID card, s/he may travel with one of his/her parents if s/he is listed on the parent's passport.
