I flew from Scotland to England with my daughter when she was about 8 months old and nobody asked to look at her passport (which was a real hassle to get!!) But I would check with the airline you are flying with just to be on the safe side, it would be a shame to come up against red tape on your daughters first trip.

Unless you are travelling from the UK to Ireland, Yes every passenger needs a passport (not just any picture ID). Both my kids had to get passports before they were 3 months old, it's great fun trying to get the correct type of photo with their eyes open! Yes, that is a requirement of the passport office. I went to Motophoto to get the pictures and they had the baby lie on a white blanket on the floor and then the photographer stood over her and took the photo.
