Question : Travel Ideas for a couple visiting Stockholm?
We are traveling to Stockholm for New Years but really have no idea what to see and do there. How is it around this time of year? We like visiting historical sights, museums, phot ops, but also enjoy the club scene. Anybody have some suggestions, gonna be there 4 days.

All Answers: Answer #1 If you like history try visiting Livrust Kammaren (Armory Museum) Its has a great collection of Royal Swedish items ie clothes, carrages, armour etc. It is normally free and is in central Stockholm. The Nordic Museum(history of Sweden) and Vasa Museum (Old war ship) are both great. The only good club I have been to is called the Spy Bar. Line ups can be long and alchol prices are criminal.Pack warm clothes and have a great time, Sweden is a great place to visit.Hope this helps - answered by Chris T
Answer #2 Places to visit:Vasamuseet (Vasa Museum); it´s impressive. You have to take the ferry to go there. Once you have seen it, go outside and have a look to a couple of ships which are tied up there. One of them is red and it´s a ship-lighthouse and the other, black, is an icebreaker. In the same island (Djurgarden) where Vasa museum is located you can visit a Biological Museum which is very beautiful in the outside, although is not worthy a visit in the inside. But you MUST go to Skansen!!! it´s a huge museum in the open: they show how people lived and worked there many years ago; there´s like a village where there´s a bakery and you can smell that delicious smell! Then you enter and see some people making bread and rolls dressed like pèople used to dress in the old times (try something, everything is delicious). There´s a zoo with reindeer, walrus, bears..... And the paths are just wonderful.More places to go:Gamla Stan. It´s one of the districts of the city; this one is the medieval part. There you can visit Kungliga Slottet (The Royal Palace): very beautiful and magnificent. The change of the guard is very attractive although it lasted too long. In Gamla Stan I also liked Tyska Kirkan (a Church); very nice, but the streets are the best; very narrow and going up or down or with a lot of steps. One of them is Vasterlanggatan, which is a comercial street. Lots of shops!!Also in Gamla Stan: Birger Jaks Torn ( a beautiful tower) and Riddarholmskyrkan ( a church; visit it!! beautiful and the tombs of all the Swedish monachs from the XVII century to today). The Parliament building is really beautiful too. Well, I liked everything in Gamla Stan!!In the centre, I liked Roseband, the building where the government is located; Klara Kyrka (Claire Church, just beautiful!!); Hotorget, the old market; it´s beautiful in itself, but there´s also Konserhuset, the building where Nobel prizes are given. Go inside, it´s very nice (and enter the restrooms!! (so nice!).I looked for, and found, the exact place where Olof Palme, the Prime Minister, was shot; it´s in the corner of Sveavagen and Tunnelgatan; there´s a placard on the ground.Armemuseum: Museums of the Arms; very nice too.In Malmarna (another district): Historiska Museum (Museum of Antiquities). In Sodermalm: Slussen (ferries to Vasa Museum leave from here). Soder Hill in Fjallgatan: 300 year old houses; just beautiful!! Walk around. And Mariaberget!!You may find this site interesting to know more: http://www.stockholmtown.com/Default.aspx?epslanguage=ENIt must be really cold there; wear warm clothes and have a nice visit!! - answered by basketmaniac
