Question : How does the traffic you think would look like tomorrow from San Jose to Lake Tahoe around 3-5 pm?
Map says it's 4 hours travel, I wonder what should be added for traffic?

All Answers: Answer #1 I would probably plan for 5 - 6 hours. There is a huge storm coming in Thursday and they have scheduled winter storm watches for Thursday. They are expecting 1 foot at the Donner Pass over 7000 feet and probably 6" at lake level. Your biggest problem area will be Fairfield area. Especially if you hit that area between 5 - 7pm. - answered by Lisa H
Answer #2 You can avoid the Fairfield area entirely (and the 80/880 maze) if you take 680 to 580 to 205 to I-5, but then you have to go through Livermore, Tracy, and Stockton too. Traffic is not going to be fun at that time of day, and you should definitely allow up to 6 hours when you factor in the snow they're expected to get up there. If you dont mind getting into Tahoe late at night it might be beneficial to leave after rush hour. Its an easier drive, but keep checking the weather to see how bad the snow is getting. - answered by tricanese
Answer #3 580, 680, 880 and 80 are all going to suck. I680, I580, I205, I5, 50 is a reasonable way to go but you can expect it to take all evening. - answered by Chris H
Answer #4 Don't even bother. If you haven't left by now then you aren't going to even get there by Christmas. You will just be sitting in traffic too long. - answered by The Leemer
