Question : Air travel to Jamaica?
I am flying to Jamaica from Charlotte next weekend. The flight there is shown as taking 1 hour 57 minutes. The flight BACK is shown as 3 hours 50 minutes. WHY??? I don't think it is because of time changes because I am going by what the airlines list as actual flying time. And it is not DST because I'm flying back next Friday before we switch back to standard time. Is the jetstream that off down that way??I also know it's not DST even though they are an hour behind DST right now, because the airline's "flight time" is listed as 3 hours 57 minutes. That is one leg, not the whole trip.

All Answers: Answer #1 The typical jetstream is about 750 miles per hour. With the wind as you will be travelling to Jamaica will get you there sooner. When you come back if you figure the flight time you will see that a typical passenger jet travels at about 540 miles per hour. So, against the jetstream your return flight time will be considerably longer. - answered by billhantzis
Answer #2 Time change might actually be the issue. Jamaica does not do Daylight Savings Time. So, even though you are in the same time zone they are an hour behind you. It could also be that the plane makes a stop on the way back. - answered by daveduncan40
Answer #3 When you arrive in Charlotte, you will have to go through U.S. Customs and Immigration.I flew to Jamaica through Charlotte a couple of years ago. Our flight was late leaving Jamaica and there are no seats in the U.S. Airways gate area in Jamaica. We had a connecting flight in Charlotte. When we got to Charlotte, we had to go through Immigration, claim our luggage, go through customs, re-check our bags to our destination, and then go back through security to get to the gate for our connecting flight. The next time I went to Jamaica we flew on Air Jamaica. It was a non-stop flight, we were fed on the flight, and treated like royalty on each segment of each flight! - answered by bubbls
Answer #4 I think it has something to do with wind current. I was recently in Ocho Rios and experienced the same thing. - answered by beachgirl5628
