Question : Do you think this is too ambitious? (Europe travel)?
The summer after my friend and I graduate high school, we want to spend approximately 3 weeks in Europe, traveling by train. Do you think in that time frame it is too ambitious to see parts of the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, and Germany in that time frame?Oh and would we need to make hostel reservations in advance?

maybe. If you're okay with just spending a day or two in each place, then sure, you could do it.I would suggest doing maybe 2-3 main places, preferably close together, so you can get a fuller experience. Otherwise you'd be just scratching the surface of a lot of places.Either way, you are sure to have a good time. The only bad decision you could make is not to go. Bon voyage~

No, but all that you will really remember is being on the train! Pick three or four excellent places and stay put in each for a week. They, you will have some very, very cool memories.

you shouldn't have to make hostel reservations- you will inevitably find a place to stay wherever you go. There are lots more places than are listed in any guide book.Stay flexible and keep an open mind. If you buy a railpass (cheaper to buy before you travel to Europe) you'll get to see lots of places and if you either don't fancy it or can't find a place to stay, just hop back on the train and go somewhere else. Just remember that you may not be able to hit all your chosen countries, so I'd suggest setting priorities. If you are travelling with someone else, remember that both of you have to be willing to compromise on what you want out of the experience. Talk to people in hostels to see what they liked and didn't and use their experiences as well.Enjoy!

As for hostels, It depends on when you go... you can make them about a week in advance...It is NOT too ambitious... I spent six weeks in europe and I saw a majority of Western and some of central europe (I think 15 countries overall)... I also had class for 3 weeks monday - thursday (so it wasnt all travel)... Now remember I spent a lot of time traveling... this time might of been better spent actually enjoying the places... but traveling is an experience too! That said.. buy a rail pass (its cheaper) and check for cheap airfare tickets from discount european air websites such websites include ryanair.com, easyjet.com and some others...You will notice often (not if you use the rail pass) if you book in advance its cheaper to fly places then take the train! For instance, i booked a few weeks in advance when i was in europe and I went to (dublin) Ireland for a weekend (from Amsterdam) i spent about 40 euros total for the round trip ticket... It was well worth it...Anyways the more time you have the better, but if all you have is three weeks it can definately be done! It might be expensive for western europe (maybe $50 a day not including transportation. If you want cheaper eastern europe might be an option...I LOVED Backpacking through europe... In fact I love it so much that I am doing a winter trip throughout eastern europeDefintately an experience I wont forgetIf you have any questions you can e-mail me at ScottmAaronson@Hotmail.com
