Amsterdam is pretty busy all year around, a good time to visit is around Christmas time if you dont have family obligations. Lots of hotels have great specials around then.

High season in Europe is May - September. Amsterdam is very busy during tulip season. Of course, you ca n't predict when the tulips will be in bloom but it is typically mid-April - early May. Amsterdam is very busy during this time! Amsterdam also hosts many meetings and conventions - so can be busy midweek with business people. Weekends can get busy with those party people!
