All Answers: Answer #1 I was in Naples last summer. I was not mugged, beaten or even approached aggressively. And I'm a girl. Mind you a tall girl compared to a lot of Italian women--but still. I would say if you are uncomfortable with the language stick to old-school "buddy system", and stay with someone you know and trust. Also, use your common sense--stay away from the red light district, avoid areas that have suspicious looking people standing around. Italy is an amazing country you are going to have a TON of fun. - answered by E squared
Answer #2 I've only been there once, but It was cool. I didn't hear about any robberies. It's a huge tourist spot, so you're probably OK. YOU MUST visit the island of CAPRIS!!!!! DO IT! :D - answered by dreamyearthangel
Answer #3 Hey, that's where I'm from! I guess it's no less safe than anywhere else. I think theres more mafia in the us than Italy, but.......the drivers are absolutely crazy! Like they are all protected by a patron saint or something! Friendly friendly people. I wish I could go back there with my dad. I went when I was 18. A trip of a lifetime. Godspeed and have a fabulous time. love, kim - answered by kim
Answer #4 dont worry about it.i've been there and nothing happened to me.but i think ,of cuz, dont reveal ur money in public...etcput ur passport, bills and one credit card in a safty bag with u( i mean inside ur clothes) all the timeItaly is a real nice place.enjoy ur trip... - answered by bearkai
Answer #5 I think Naples gets a bad rap because a lot of peole only see the train station as they pass through to Pompeii, Capri, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. If you think about it, the train stations in most cities are seedy and filled with transients. - answered by samsnedecker
Answer #6 I've being to Italy twice (Spring Breaks) and to Naples and Pompeii once. I'll tell you this, as long as you don't look like Donald Trump and where bling like a fool, then you'll be fine. When I go to Italy, I wonder about people that look like money and think they'll get robbed or short-changed. But, when you go to Italy you see soo many people with maps and guide books. Looking pretty average and we all do okay. So in other words, it's very safe. The people in the south are very warm people. I believe the mafia is more of a Sicilian thing, but "Mafia" is all made up from the US (especially from the Sopranos). YOU'LL BE FINE...Relax and enjoy the trip. The women are beautiful in Italy. - answered by fastball16
Answer #7 i was there overnight....near the train station. honestly, i've never felt so unsafe in italy.....but i was living in peaceful florence at the time. i know that guys on mopeds cruise by and can easily grab your watch, necklace, etc. a friend of mine was from the south of italy and told me many stories about the dangers of naples. be careful! - answered by nicoleinitaly2001
Answer #8 I never had any trouble, but I also don't leave myself open. I carry money in a money belt, I don't wear jewelry, and I stay aware of my surroundings. But even so, I found the people to be very nice and helpful, too. I was shopping at the supermarket and several people helped me figure out how to weigh and label my vegetables. - answered by Donna M
Answer #9 People from Naples are the nicest people around. I have been living in Italy for two years. I know that Naples get a bad rap, but I think that some of it is true. Everytime I have gone to Naples, I have been safe, but I was with original people from Naples. If I were you I would think safe. The worst thing that could happen to you is that someone steals your wallet. Make sure to keep your wallet in a closed area, zip up your jacket and don't leave anything important in your pockets. I think the most burglarly happens on public transportation. If you want to stay out late or go to a Discotech, then make sure you take a taxi on your way back to the hotel and don't walk around late at night.Overall, naples is one of the best cities ever with the best pizza, mozzarella and fresh tomatoes! Enjoy and don't let the MAFIA rap scare you. Just think safe.Have fun! - answered by smante
Answer #10 Guns - no threat.Mafia - no threat.Theives - threat as per any tourist destination. I had my map stolen when I asked someone for directions outside the station in Naples. Not a great start to the day, but I didn't let it get me down. It's a good idea to travel with a jacket with an inside pocket, so you can keep your passport and money safe. If you carry a purse, keep your hand on it (covering the opening flap) when you are in shops, on the street, and ESPECIALLY when you are getting on and off public transportation. Keep your head up and your eyes open and you'll be fine. - answered by jetgirly
