Question : Live like a local while in Maui. Advice Please?
We will be traveling to Maui this summer with a 6mo old and a 4 yr old. We would like to experience life as the locals do. Best places to eat. Fun things to do. Adult night life.(specifically house music venues)Free things to do. Other budget friendly outings. Any thing else you can think of I may be overlooking. We are also interested in the lay out of the island. Are things easily accessible by foot or public trans? How difficult or expensive is it to travel to the other islands? Thank you for any and all suggestions and advice.

Frankly speaking, locals, specifically Maolis don't like outsiders in Hawaii. Anyway, I'm not sure what you mean by experiencing life as the locals do...but locals don't have any speical way of living. They dress differently though. Most of them wear flipflops, T shirt and surf shorts. They are ready to go to the beach anytime. Friday is called "aloha friday" in Hawaii and many locals wear aloha shirts. Aloha shirts that locals wear and tourists wear are actually very different. True aloha shirts that locals wear are more darker in color. Hibiscus print shirts are rarely worn by them. Haha. There's not many things that you can do on Maui. Haleakala is the world's largest dormant volcano. You can drive to the top and see the amazing views. Iao Valley State Monument is a spot that a major ancient battle took place. Lahaina is an old whaling village. I personally am very interested in Kaihalulu beach located in Hana. I saw a really nice picture of this beach on national geographic magazine. There's no public transportation on Maui so I strongly suggest that you rent a car. The best place to stay is no doubt Kaanapali Beach Hotel.
http://www.kbhmaui.com/ If you go to the website, it tells you everything. "Hawaii's most hawaiian hotel"! And it's really true. Traveling to other islands is pretty easy. You can get any of them within an hour. Aloha airlines and Hawaiian airlines are recommended. Airfare will be from $80 one way. From Maui, you can see Big island of Hawaii with the naked eyes. It's really close from Maui.

Okay PINK LEMONADE:If you are going to study about Hawaii you should be speaking with a local. Flip Flops you call them they called slippahs honey and yeah those places you named anyone could find that on the internet. If you going to Maui braddah check out hawaii.com and go to kama'aina they have some good things there. Go to Lahaina (nice beaches and local people) Local people don't mind tourist they only mind when you come over and act like you better then us. I get plenty a**holes where I stay working and I like knock them out. Don't try to talk like us be you and be kind and respect our home. Tourist come and trash then they go home we live here we keep it Aloha. Sorry check out Hana nice plenty tourist but nice. Go upcountry Makawao Cold (at times) nice breeze. If you get kids careful on the road to Lahaina cause real curvy don't go night time plenty kids stay on the road. We get alot of dui's there. No worries about local shirts where what you like no need long pants can bring one sweata you might need em. You need more info. You need a rent a car to get around but can find um cheap.
