Answer #2 Why not stagger the travel days. Drive out in 4 or 5 days.take the most direct route. It will still be very scenic. If you travel for 8 hours a day (That doesn't include any stopping time), you can make it in 4 .No offence to the prairies, but blast thru them. Driving thru the mountains can take some time, so make up the time when you can.By the time you leave Vancouver, you will know how long you like to travel in a day and you'll have a better idea of what type of place you would like to explore a little more.Take 10 days to drive home. Drive a diffrnt route back. Stop at the scenic views and historic markers. Hang out for awhile someplace that feels good.Drive from Banff to Jasper for sure.Route 3 across bottom of BC.p.s. Besides having emergency items in the car, make sure you have a cooler and the makings of a picinic always ready to go. On a road trip, You can write the schedule, but changing it isn't wrong. - answered by hyperactivesleep
Answer #3 Take the Trans Canada Highway. I agree with Hyperactives about blasting through the prairies. I've done the drive from Vancouver Island to Toronto and the flatlands were nice but there's not too much to look at... outside of the giant Moose in Moosejaw. The people were nice though. Sorry prairie people, but for someone born and raised on the BC west coast, it's hard to get used to a flat horizon. Make sure you stop in Lake Louise. Go see the lake - you will not regret it. Once you're on Vancouver Island you can go anywhere and see mountains, lakes, rivers, forests, etc, etc, etc. And take your time. - answered by jeffypuff
