I'm not sure about the hotels, but it's easiest (imho) to travel by train. It takes about 4 hrs.

I rent a car everytime I go to Europe. Fantastic roads, lots of freedom to explore. All the friggin tour books tell people to go by train through Europe. That's crazy, just rent a car. You'll enjoy your trip a whole lot more.
