Travel Guide: Atlanta - Georgia - United States

Although Atlanta is not as crowded as the Big Apple or Chicago yet, it's a vibrant city that keeps on growing onto its surroundings. The business and the historic heart beats in downtown Atlanta. Tall compact buildings alternate with old mansions and some of the best museums the city has to offer, which isn't saying much.  The best things about the city are the food, the shopping and the nightlife.  As long as you keep that in mind, you won't be disappointed.  So eat up - max those cards out and party hearty, because if you're looking for history or culture, you'll go home sorely lacking.

Atlanta has an excellent rail system called MARTA if you are within walking distance of the rail system.  Otherwise a car is a necessity here to get anywhere in the city, including to a rail station.  Check with your hotel to see if there's a station within 2 blocks of them.

Buckhead is the area where the fashionable live, but it is also the place to go to when you want to indulge in the sparkling nightlife scene (theatres, comedy clubs, bars, discos, live performances... you name it and you'll definitely find it here).

For the more artistically inclined, the Little Five Points area at the intersection of Moreland and Euclid Ave. would be very interesting. It features many stores, coffee shops and other interesting places to look at and shop too.  Are you a suburban wanna-be goth looking for the 'oh-so-urban' experience?  Then this is the place for you.

Downtown, there is the Underground mall which is kind of cheesy and touristy, and it has an element of a safety concern at night; probably best to skip it altogether.  Keep in mind that this area is called "Five Points," not to be confused with "Little Five Points."

Don't forget to catch a Braves home game at Turner Field! The new 79ft x 125ft video score board is NOT to be missed!
