Travel Guide: Aguilla - The Caribbean

Still a bit off the beaten track, Anguilla is one of the most paradise like islands in the Caribbean. The northernmost of the Leeward Islands, 145 miles east of Puerto Rico , the island is 16 miles long and 3 miles wide. It has a population of only 10,000 people.

Anguilla is mostly flat, so there are no mountains to climbs or hikes to be made during your stay here. This can be a very relaxing thought. There is no reason not to enjoy the flawless beaches with their pure sand and neon sea.

The Valley is the capital of the island, and is located right in the center. Sandy Ground village on Road Bay, the main port and the center of nightlife, is located on the north coast. Cap Juluca, Cuisinart and Malliouhana, Temenos are the largest luxury resorts on the island, and are located on the west end. Anguilla also has several smaller resorts and private guesthouses, as well as a great selection of bars and restaurant from the most casual to the star studded. Renting a car or scooter is recommended as there is no public transport service. Most travellers arrive via regularly scheduled flights from Puerto Rico, Antigua, or neighboring St Maarten, which also offers a direct 30 min. ferry service to Blowing Point on the south coast of the island about 2 miles from the capital, The Valley, or 5 miles from the major resorts in the west. Since the island is very small, the beaches are never far away.

Travel Q&A on Aguilla:

Question: #1: why isnt trinidad and tobago listed in under the caribbean travel heading?
i mean, trinidad is one of the most industrialised caribbean countries, and out of the english-speaking caribbean, it IS the most industrialised, with the highest standard of living. simply because it is not the most popular tourism attraction should it be left out?simply because it does not fit mainly in to the caribbean stereotype of sun, sea and sand (which it doesn't lack by the way) - asked by sasha

Answer: cus when ppl think of caribbean they dont think of trinidad...trinidad is not really a tourist island although they do have tourists....they depend on oil and gas (which is in abundance there ) and not ... - answered by: moan

Question: #2: Caribbean Travel help!?
I am planning a trip for this summer to either Negril, Jamaica, Nassau Bahamas or Cancuun/Riveria Maya area in Mexico. I have asked a similar question before, but wanted more info. I was leaning towards Jamaica, (airfare is less from FL) but have heard that it can be quite dangerous. I wan't to go somewhere laid back, with great beaches and tropical drinks. I do like some sort of activity, (casinos/shops) but the beaches are the most important to me. I do not, however, want to be haggled and approached by locals all day while I am at the beach. I realize, this is how people make $$, but I want to relax on my vacation and not be annoyed too much.....what would be the best place to go?I have only every been to Nassau, and I loved the beaches/locals but would like to experience somewhere else this time around.TIA - asked by jesslyn848

Answer: I will be very truthful with you, I would suggest you go to a travel agency for some help. You can do some research on trip advisor because they have the best reviews and photos. The only casino I know ... - answered by: stella39

Question: #5: Best Caribbean island to travel to with hubby and two young sons?
We need a holiday! We haven't had a proper vacation since our honeymoon nine years ago, and this will be our first major trip with the boys. I need good advice for a Caribbean destination that would provide our family with lots of fun things to do. My sons are aged 2 and 7. I would prefer to stay in a reputable place that offers children's activities so that my husband and I can get a little couple time as well. We'd likely go for a week in either October or November. Thank you! - asked by elle72

Question: #7: What is the best all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean to have a wedding & have affordable travel expenses?
I'm currently looking for an amazing boutique resort in the Caribbean that has an all-inclusive option for my wedding. Preferably, I would like to have the ceremony on a cliffside overlooking the ocean, rather than in the sand. It's very important for travel expenses (airfare & hotel) to be affordable for my guests to come. I would like to keep it around $1,000/person if possible - or I fear not that many people will come! Other preferable amenities are great food, spa services, great service in general, private beach access if not situated directly on the beach, water activities/tours (i.e. cruise for guests around the island), and it would also be great to be able to fly directly into the island - has to have its own airport. :) Right now, I'm trying to stay away Jamaica, Dominican Republic & Puerto Rico - and Mexico. Also, I think the U.S. & British Virgin Islands will be too expensive. Any suggestions? Other islands: St. Lucia, Bahamas, Grand Cayman, St. Kitts, Barbados,et - asked by kittykat416

Answer: Right now, Punta cana, Dominican republic is the best place to go for that, nice, unexpensive, and I'm sure you will have the best time of your life there.
